Miami Valley Research Foundation Elects Larry Porter as its New Chairman of the Board
DAYTON, Ohio - The Miami Valley Research Foundation announced today that Larry Porter, President of LPA, Inc., has been elected Chairman of the Board. He succeeds Robert F. Chelle, Founding Director of the Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at the University of Dayton, who is term-limited following his two years as Chairman.
"Larry's solid business experience and extensive community network will be of tremendous assistance as the Miami Valley Research Foundation enters its third decade of operation," said Chelle. "His leadership will help us continue the valuable work of the Foundation and the growth of the Miami Valley Research Park, which recently launched its Phase 2 development through its infrastructure investment in College Drive and the IDEA Center as well as the construction of a new 50,000 sq.ft. building, Tech Center IV. Working with the Board of Trustees, our university partners and the business community, he will keep us focused on our goal of creating a world-class technology community that attracts and nurtures businesses, government and educational organizations that provide high value jobs for this region."
Porter joined the Board in 2002. He is a retired Air Force research and development executive, having worked more than thirty-five years in R&D. He developed and implemented the first comprehensive program to involve Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions and Tribal Colleges and Universities in Air Force Research and Development Programs.
In addition to the Research Foundation, Porter currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Sinclair Community College Board of Trustees; Chairman of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges; as a member of the Diversity Committee of the Association of Community College Trustees; and, is Co-Chairman of the Economic Development Committee of Parity Incorporated. He is past Chairman of City Wide Development Corporation.
The Foundation also elected three Trustees to serve on the Board. Robert Chelle and Carol Warner, Vice President of Finance for LM Berry & Company were re-elected to three year terms and Mary Boosalis, President and CEO of Miami Valley Hospital was elected to a first term. Among the Foundation's other Trustees are: Kathleen Carlson, Managing Partner/CFA, Parker, Carlson & Johnson; Dr. Daniel J. Curran, President, The University of Dayton; John W. Garland, President, Central State University; James R. Hoehn, President & CEO/Southwest Region, National City Bank; Col. Darrell H. Holcomb, Vice Commander of ASC/CV; Dr. David R. Hopkins, President, Wright State University; Dr. Steven L. Johnson, President, Sinclair Community College; and, Brig. General Paula G. Thornhill, Commandant of AFIT/CV.
