Research Park Hosts Senator Voinovich

The Miami Valley Research Park, in conjunction with Dayton Development Coalition and the Dayton, Fairborn and Beavercreek Area Chambers of Commerce, was host to United States Senator George Voinovich (R) and 40 business, education and community leaders as well as United States Air Force officials. The Senator convened the meeting on March 3rd to discuss the Dayton area preparedness for the new missions coming to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in 2011 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.
The BRAC program additions will mean a net gain of approximately 1,100 jobs for Wright-Patterson, plus an estimated 3,000-4,000 jobs that defense contractors and other service providers will move to the Dayton area to support the programs. These programs include aerospace medicine, human effectiveness and sensor development.
Among the issues discussed:
- The relocation of military personnel to Dayton and spousal employment opportunities.
- The employment training requirements and their related opportunities for area colleges and universities.
- The establishment of additional allied health programs.
Senator Voinovich has been a long time advocate for the Research Park during his tenure as Ohio Governor (1990-1998) and as a U.S. Senator (1999-present). The Research Park was pleased to once again welcome the Senator and discuss important strategic opportunities for the Dayton area.
